Latha Chandramouli

Latha is a leading local consultant community paediatrician, working in Bristol NHS service for over 12 years. She works in partnership with children and families, within multidisciplinary and multiagency teams. She firmly believes in passing the ‘friend and family test’ - providing a service that she would be happy to recommend to people that she cares for.

Latha qualified from Calcutta University, India, in 1993, with Honours. Receiving distinctions in Pharmacology, Physiology and ENT and won scholarships and prizes throughout medical education and training. She completed membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics in 1999 and higher specialist training CCT with Sub-Speciality recognition in Community Child Health on the Specialist Register, in 2012.
Latha has expertise in the identification and management of neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism and assessment of Early Developmental Delay/ Learning disability, sleep problems, Developmental Coordination Disorder and psychosocial paediatrics. ​Latha has a special interest in how neurodiversity conditions like ADHD and ASD can present differently across genders.

Latha is currently holding the strategic leadership role of the Designated doctor for safeguarding children in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB. She has been nominated and shortlisted for an award within her organisation, for her innovative service improvements in improving safeguarding procedures in 2024.

She has published in national and international journals ( Lancet and Archives for Disease in childhood, European Journal of Human Genetics) on a variety of topics. She is a peer reviewer for the Archives for Disease in childhood.

Latha is an University of Bristol Medical school Associate, and professional mentor for medical students and the Severn Deanery educational and clinical supervisor for paediatric trainees, assessor for recruitment of speciality paediatric trainees, and medical students. Latha is a GMC Associate, with an assessor and quality assurance roles.

As the RCPCH Child Protection clinical co- lead, since September 2024 , Latha contributes to reviewing evidence and revision of chapters in the prestigious RCPCH book. She is a member of RCPCH systematic review, and publications Sub-committee and RCPCH Child Protection Special Interest Group Sub-committee.

Latha is a keen advocate for the voice of the child and families, to be heard. She has contributed to the National Children’s Bureau antibullying campaign, in 2017-18, focusing on victims, perpetrators and bystanders and systems to empower young people.
Latha volunteers as a member of the Genomics England participant panel, since 2018, is part of the Ethics Advisory committee and is involved in Education Genomics medicine and has been invited to talk about this, in educating the genomic educators, in Cambridge. She has linked with Health education England to raise awareness of invisible disability.

Latha loves pottery and enjoy collecting and making them. She has aspirations of being an author of children’s stories one day!
